Key Facts about Cornwall Park

• Cornwall Park was gifted to the people of Aotearoa New Zealand by Sir John Logan Campbell in 1901 and opened in 1903.
• More than 2 million people visit the park each year.
• Cornwall Park is an ecological haven for native and introduced plants and animals, serving as an important connector for migratory birds.
• Entry is free, providing a place of recreation and wellbeing for everyone.
• The park covers 172 hectares.
• Cornwall Park is self-funded. It is not part of Auckland Council and operates at no cost to taxpayers or ratepayers.
• The park is home to around 9,000 trees representing more than 350 species, ranging in age and stage of life.
• Each year, more than 25,000 annuals and 10,000 bulbs are planted throughout the park.
• Around 30 staff work across the park, including park and nursery staff, arborists, property managers and farm managers. Maintenance staff can be seen working in the park every day.

An Exemplar Farm

• Cornwall Park Farm is one of only a handful of working commercial farms operating within an urban environment anywhere in the world.
• The farm cares for a herd of Simmental cattle and a flock of Perendale sheep, both breeds known for their hardiness and relaxed temperaments.
• The farm employs three full-time staff, including a farm intern, and works with around four highly trained farm dogs.
• The farm dogs are specifically bred and trained to work in this unique environment while also being valued members of the Cornwall Park team.
